Export from Instagram

Follow these exact steps on Instagram's official data center. Takes about 5 minutes — most of it is just waiting for the email.

    Open Instagram's Data Center

    Visit the official Meta Accounts Center and login. Click Export your information, then Create export. Choose your Instagram profile and click Export to device.

    Select Followers & Following

    Click Customise information, then tick only Followers and Following. Click Save.

    Only tick this specific box. Adding photos or messages makes the export massive, and Unfollowr doesn't need them.

    Set Date Range & Format

    Click Date range and set to All Time, then Save. Click format and set to JSON, then Save.

    JSON is required — Unfollowr cannot read HTML exports.

    Start Export & Download

    Click Start Export and enter your password. Instagram will email you when it's ready (usually under 5 mins). Download the data folder.

Good questions, honest answers

Everything runs in your browser. Your Instagram data is read locally and never uploaded to any server. We don't have a server. You can verify this by opening your browser's network tab — no requests are made when processing your files.
Instagram won't know you used Unfollowr. The data export is an official Meta feature. The actual unfollowing happens on Instagram — you'll need to manually unfollow each account, but we make it one click away with direct profile links.
Instagram doesn't show you who doesn't follow you back directly. The data export is the only official way to get your complete followers and following lists. Once you have both, comparing them is simple — that's exactly what Unfollowr does.
Whenever you feel like cleaning up. Monthly is a good cadence if you follow a lot of accounts. Each export takes about 5 minutes, and Unfollowr processes it instantly. Your progress is saved in your browser, so you can take breaks.
You can browse the site on mobile, but folder upload works best on desktop browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari). On mobile, you may need to select individual JSON files instead of the whole folder. Either way, your data stays on your device.
